The Automation Technician plans, maps, sequences and performs assembly of complex electrical, mechanical and pneumatic robotic equipment from verbal and written instructions. Performs layout of mechanical, pneumatic and electrical schematics.

Essential Job Functions


  • Perform a variety of diagnostic troubleshooting activities on automation equipment.

  • Perform mechanical, electrical, pneumatic or hydraulic repairs to automation equipment

  • Perform equipment failure analysis, repairs, and scheduled preventative maintenance on robotic and automated equipment. ·

  • Set up manual and semi-automatic automation equipment and assists in operating pre-production runs.

  • Assist in installing new automated equipment and in moving equipment to new locations.

  • Performs layout of mechanical, pneumatic and electrical schematics.

  • Create new robot programs and edit existing robot programs.

  • Update manuals and programs for automated equipment.

  • Keeps accurate reports of all activities performed on each piece of equipment.

  • Provide input to on areas for machine design and/or improvements.

  • Program automation through use of PLC’s from conception to implementation

  • Optimize performance on automated equipment, inspection equipment and robotic work cells

  • Plan and implement dedicated fully automated manufacturing cells.

  • Train plant personnel on use of automation May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements


  • Associates degree or Trade school with a focus in electro/mechanical or combined equivalent of education and experience

  • Prior experience in automation systems fabrication utilizing Bridgeport, lathe, and other equipment.

  • Familiar with pick and place robot programming, and end of arm tooling fabrication

  • Proficiency with PLC programming

  • Proficient at welding

  • Familiar with Microsoft word and Excel


Required Skills


  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Experience in injection molding a plus

  • Strong mechanical/electrical aptitude

  • Creative thinking to drive innovation of existing processes and equipment

  • Ability to communicate well with other functions

  • Excellent equipment troubleshooting skills

  • Prior experience programming PLC’s
