The cost accountant is responsible for the ongoing analysis of process constraints, target costing projects, margin analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities. The cost accountant must also construct and monitor those data accumulation systems needed to provide an appropriate level of costing information to management.
Position Responsibilities
Create and review the controls needed for data accumulation and reporting systems to drive the cost accounting process
Coordinate physical inventory counts and cycle counts
Investigate cycle counting variances and resolve issues
Update standard costs in the bill of materials
Review standard and actual costs for inaccuracies
Validate the cost of goods sold as part of the month-end close
Revise the reserve for obsolete inventory as needed
Accumulate and apply overhead costs as required by GAAP
Work with management to locate and dispose of obsolete inventory
Report on breakeven points by product and work center
Report on margins by product
On a regular basis, provide reporting on variances and their causes, focusing in particular on spending variances
Analyze capital budgeting requirements
Perform cost accumulation tasks
Skills and Desired Qualifications
BS/BA degree in Business, Accounting or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
5+ years of cost accounting experience
SAGE 100 experience a plus
Excellent analysis skills, and the ability to collaborate across all levels of the organization.
Strong system and data processing background
Strong understanding of GAAP
